Even the best chair only works if it is set up for you. These six steps take about five minutes and make more difference to your comfort than any single feature. Do them in this order, sitting in the chair.
Then move. No posture is right for eight hours. Change position often, use the recline, and stand up for a few minutes every half hour or so.
| Chair | What to set |
|---|---|
| Aeron | Choose the right size first (A, B or C), then set PostureFit SL for the base of your spine and lower back. Every Aeron product page has a size finder and a full step-by-step How to adjust guide. |
| Embody | Set the seat depth carefully, as the Embody comes in one size. Then adjust the tilt tension so the back moves with you as you lean. |
| Mirra 2 | Set the adjustable lumbar support and, depending on the version, the seat depth. The pivoting arms can angle in to support you at the keyboard. |
| Sayl | Set the seat depth, then try the forward tilt for focused typing and the tilt limiter for upright work. |
| Setu | Only the height. The flexible seat and back adapt to you automatically. |
High enough that your feet rest flat on the floor and your thighs are roughly level, with your knees at about hip height. Then check your desk: with relaxed arms, the keyboard should be at elbow height.
Both, at different times. Sitting slightly reclined, with your back supported, is comfortable for reading and calls; upright suits focused typing. A good chair lets you move easily between the two.
In the natural inward curve of your lower back, roughly just above your belt line. It should feel supportive, not as if it is pushing you forward.
