The Aeron and the Embody are Herman Miller’s two flagship work chairs. Both are built for long days at a desk, but they feel very different to sit on. Here is how to choose.
| Aeron | Embody | |
|---|---|---|
| Seat | Pellicle mesh: breathable, cool | Layered and upholstered: soft, even support |
| Back | Pellicle mesh with PostureFit SL | Flexible “spine” back that moves with you |
| Sizes | Three: A, B and C | One size, with adjustable seat depth |
| Lower-back support | PostureFit SL: two pads you adjust for the base of the spine and the lower back | Built into the back; it follows your spine automatically |
| Main adjustments | Seat height, tilt tension, tilt limiter, PostureFit SL, fully adjustable arms; seat angle on some versions | Seat height, seat depth, tilt tension, tilt limiter, adjustable arms |
| How it feels | Firm, cool and upright | Soft, enveloping, encourages movement |
| Look | Iconic, technical, open mesh | Sculptural, with the visible “spine” at the back |
The Aeron holds you in a balanced, upright position. The mesh gives slightly under you and lets air through, so you don’t heat up even after hours of sitting. Because it comes in three sizes, the seat edge, back height and support all line up with your body. Every Aeron page on our shop has a size finder that recommends A, B or C from your height and weight, and a step-by-step How to adjust guide.
The Embody feels more cushioned. Its back is made of many small supports on a flexible “spine”, so when you lean, twist or reach, the back moves with you and the pressure stays spread out. It is one size, with a seat that slides forward or back to match the length of your legs.
Can’t decide? Sit on each for at least five minutes, working as you normally do. Most people know straight away whether they prefer the cool mesh of the Aeron or the cushioned feel of the Embody.

Both are designed for long working days. The Aeron suits people who like a cool mesh seat and a size-specific fit; the Embody suits people who sit for very long stretches and keep changing position.
The Aeron. Its mesh seat and back let air through, which makes a noticeable difference on warm days. The Embody’s upholstered seat feels softer but warmer.
Most people fit size B. Size A suits smaller users and size C taller or larger users. Use the size finder on any Aeron product page: enter your height and weight and it recommends a size.
No. The Embody is made in one size, and its adjustable seat depth lets it fit most people.
Yes. Our showrooms in Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca have both chairs on display, and our team can help you set them up.
