How to adjust your Aeron

Five minutes of setup makes the biggest difference. Sit down, then work through the steps in this order. Controls marked If fitted depend on the configuration of your chair.

  1. 1

    Seat height

Lever on the right, under the seat (front)

To raise the seat, stand up slightly so your weight is off the chair and lift the lever. To lower it, stay seated and lift the lever. Set it so your feet rest flat on the floor with your thighs roughly level.

  2. 2

    Tilt tension

Long knob on the right, under the seat

Controls how much effort it takes to lean back. While seated, turn it forward for firmer resistance, backward for a lighter recline. You should be able to recline smoothly without being pushed forward.

  3. 3

    Tilt limiter If fitted

Inner knob on the left, under the seat

Rotate the knob forward to limit the recline to the position you prefer (upright, mid-recline or full recline). To release it, rotate the knob all the way back.

  4. 4

    Forward tilt If fitted

Outer knob on the left, under the seat

Tilts the seat up to 5° forward to support your thighs during focused tasks such as typing. Lean back and rotate the knob forward. To return the seat to level, lean back and rotate it all the way back.

  5. 5

Lower back support: PostureFit SL If fitted

Knob on the back of the chair

Sit with your back in the pocket of the backrest, then turn the knob forward until it comfortably supports the natural alignment of your spine and lower back. Turn it backward to disengage it.

  6. 6

Lower back support: adjustable lumbar pad If fitted

Pad on the back of the backrest

Hold both ends of the pad and slide it up or down (about 11 cm of travel) until it sits in the natural curve of your lower back. Press evenly on both sides so it moves straight.

  7. 7

    Arm height If fitted

Lever at the base of each arm

Lift the lever, raise or lower the arm (about 17–27 cm above the seat), then lower the lever to lock it. Your arms should rest on the armpads without lifting your shoulders.

  8. 8

Arm depth and angle If fitted

Front of each armpad (fully adjustable arms)

Hold the front of the armpad and slide it forward or back. To change the angle, swing it inward for support while typing, or outward while using a mouse.

Quick check

  • Feet flat on the floor
  • Lower back support following the natural curve of your spine
  • Arms resting on the armpads without lifting your shoulders

Care

Vacuum the mesh with an upholstery attachment and spot-clean marks with a soft cloth. Wipe the frame, base and arm pads with a cloth dampened with mild soapy water, then dry.

Product Details

The Herman Miller Aeron Chair – Size C in this configuration has a Graphite frame and Pellicle with a polished aluminium chassis and base — the dark suspension set against bright, reflective aluminium below the seat.

PostureFit SL back support uses two adjustable pads to support the sacrum and the lumbar area, so the spine keeps its natural curve when you sit back. The tilt limiter and seat angle controls let you recline freely or set a limit and tip the seat forward for focused work, and the fully adjustable arms move in height, pivot and depth, with vinyl armpads in Black (BK).

The 8Z Pellicle suspension in Graphite (23103) has eight zones of tension across seat and back, spreading pressure evenly and letting air pass through, and the 65 mm soft castors (C7) roll on both carpet and hard floors. Size C is the large of the three Aeron sizes.

  • Size: Large (C)

  • Height Adjustment: High height range (3)

  • Tilt Option: Tilt limiter & seat angle (3)

  • Arms: Fully adjustable, including depth (D)

  • Armpads: Vinyl (W), Black (BK)
